Overview

McGraw-Hill's ACT Vocabulary iPhone/iPod Touch application is a powerful study tool that will help you achieve the ACT score you want.


The content was created by teachers from Advantage Education, one of America’s most renowned test-prep course providers.


All of these words have been used on past ACTs. Some of them are included because former students asked about them. Some are included because they have been selected by experienced ACT instructors as representative of the vocabulary level that is expected on the ACT. We have also included some math and science terms with which you should be familiar. 


App Features

Flashcards

Over 500 easy-to-use flashcards. Once you mark a word as "known", it's moved to the Known box.  This allows you to continue building your vocabulary with new words.  At any point, you can reset and shuffle the deck to start over  Make sure to stay familiar with the items in the Known box.


Reference

A comprehensive, alphabetical listing of the words gives you an opportunity to review words at your own pace.  In the section, you can search for a specific word, scroll alphabetically through the word, or quickly jump to a letter with the A-Z side panel.


Setup

Setup provides the ability to set the orientation lock and default font size.  The orientation lock is used to prevent the screen from switching back and forth between horizontal and vertical orientations if the device is moved.  When set to "On" it will automatically lock the orientation 10 seconds after starting a flashcard session.  The default font size slider will set the font size used for the flashcards and reference screen descriptions.

The McGraw-Hill SAT Smart Cards application allows you to move through various types of SAT questions at your own pace.  You may choose a question in one of three separate categories - Math, Roots, and Writing.  You may skip a card that you either do not know or would like to save for later.  A skipped card is added to the end of the list of questions in its category.




McGraw-Hill's U.S. History Quiz

Are you a history buff fascinated by the rich and varied history of this great nation?  Or perhaps you're a student struggling to decipher the timeline and corresponding details of the many milestones that helped to shape America.  Either way the the McGraw-Hill U.S. History Quiz app will prove to be an invaluable tool.  


Designed to assess a user's current knowledge of American history and based closely on the actual AP US History test given each year, this application consists of 80 multiple choice questions and provides detailed answers to each one.  The application measures your progress as you go along and allows you to save your work, returning later to finish the test at your convenience.  It also allows for repeated usage since, once completed, you can scramble the questions and take the test all over again.  To minimize frustration, the application also allows the user to skip a question, returning to it at a later time.


The content for this application was created by Stephen Armstrong, author of McGraw-Hill's 5 Steps to a 5: AP U.S. History.  Mr Armstrong is an AP History teacher, supervisor of social studies at Hall High School in West Hartford, and an adjunct professor of history at Central Connecticut State University.
